Rabobank gives $50,000 to disaster fund

- 7/25/2010

The Imperial Valley Community Foundation’s Regional Disaster Fund received a substantial boost recently courtesy of Rabobank, N.A. The foundation was presented with a $50,000 check by Rabobank Regional President Dave Takata in an effort to bolster the Foundation’s Imperial Valley Regional Disaster Fund.

The Regional Disaster Fund was established to assist those in need, still trying to recover from the devastating earthquake of April 4. Local residents and public-serving agencies, who might not qualify for assistance through the federal government’s Small Business Administration program, or through their designated municipality, may be eligible for funds through the Regional Disaster Fund.

“What we’d like to do with this donation is jump-start the efforts of the Imperial Valley Regional Disaster Fund Committee and help that group reach its ambitious goal of $1 million,” Takata said. “There were so many people affected by the earthquake who are still experiencing tough times and we’re hoping the foundation is where they come to get assistance.”

Bobby Brock, president and CEO of the Imperial Valley Community Foundation, said the Regional Disaster Fund committee is committed to making every effort possible to ensure the community’s immediate needs are met. He has worked closely with each local municipality to ensure the fund’s eligibility requirements are disseminated to local residents as they seek financial assistance.

“I’ve spent time working with city officials to make sure they relay to residents and local service-providing agencies that there is money here for them to use,” Brock said. “Residents feel helpless after a disaster strikes and it’s our job to make sure they know help is readily available.”

The Foundation has set up a dedicated phone line that people can call to receive information about getting assistance through the Regional Disaster Fund. Those interested can call 760-336-0055 or visit the Foundation’s Web site at www.ivcommunityfoundation.org.

Takata, who is chairman of the Imperial Valley Community Foundation Board of Directors, said he hopes Rabobank’s donation ignites a spark among local businesses and residents to make every effort possible to help those in need.

“This is a chance for Rabobank to step to the forefront and help build this Regional Disaster Fund to the levels where it needs to be to make the most impact on the lives of Imperial Valley residents,” Takata said. “Rabobank is committed to the communities we serve and I’m proud to be part of both of these wonderful organizations.”
