The public can observe the California Energy Commission’s hearing on the proposed Imperial Valley Solar Project at 10 a.m. Thursday in El Centro.
The evidentiary hearing will be broadcast live from Sacramento in the San Diego Gas and Electric Renewable Energy Resource Center in El Centro.
It is one of many hearings for the proposed 750-megawatt Imperial Valley Solar Project, which would be built near Ocotillo. The power would be transmitted via the Sunrise Powerlink to San Diego.
California Energy commissioners Jeffrey Byron and Anthony Eggert will be part of the evidentiary hearing in Sacramento. Raoul Renaud will conduct the proceedings.
Michele Demetras, California Energy Commission spokeswoman, said the evidentiary hearing will examine air quality, biological resources and soil and water resources as they relate to the project’s potential effects. It will also look into any possible alternatives for the project.
At 5:30 p.m. Monday, the public will have the opportunity to comment at the San Diego Gas and Electric Renewable Energy Resource Center. Demetras said those interested in voicing their opinions about the project can fill out a blue card.
“You don’t have to be a formal party to the project to make a comment,” she said.
